Are you anxious about returning to the office?

Now that vaccines are fully available, and the worst days of the pandemic are hopefully behind us, businesses are calling their employees back to the office full time. Many employees are concerned about the health risks involved and losing their newfound sense of freedom.

If you are one of those employees returning to the office after a long period of working from the comfort of your home,

here are five tips to help you ease back into the workplace:

  1. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Know what is expected of you and what to expect from your employer before returning to the office. Start the conversation about your company’s Covid-19 protocols and other concerns you may have. The more you know, the more comfortable you will be going back.
  1. Allow time to adjust. The transition back to the office may take some getting used to. Give yourself time to settle into a new routine and get over the initial culture shock.
  1. Monitor your health. Returning to the office can be stressful. Health protocols and procedures eat up mental energy. Take regular 15-minute breaks and ask for help when needed. Contact your employer should you feel the need to talk to a professional.
  1. Set boundaries. Ask your co-workers to keep a safe social distance and ensure that precautions are maintained. If you are not ready to talk about what happened during the pandemic, be prepared to voice this to your colleagues.
  1. Be your own advocate. If you were more productive at home, or you require a reasonable accommodation for health reasons or to perform your job, talk to your employer.

We are now in a new phase of adjusting back into the office. There is a lot to consider.

With proper planning and precautions, you can look forward to reconnecting with colleagues in a safe and considerate way.
